“REMIXING OUR REALITIES”
-
ELEMENTAL
The Lyripeutics Storytelling Project (LSP) is fundamentally rooted in the five elements of hip hop: B-boying, MCing, Graffiti, DJing, KNOWLEDGE. We strive for an environment that does not privledge one medium over the other but rather a constellation that has historically worked together to birth the unique situation of Hip Hop in Black American Culture. We recognize and respect first and foremost these elements to guide us in and out the classroom. Hip Hop is a lifestyle, not just something you interact with.

WELLNESS & PARTNERSHIP
The Lyripeutics Storytellin Project values and grounds ourselves in reclaiming the idea of wellness. In the classroom, we are concerened with “remixing” and redefining what wellness can look like by leading our students through mindfullness practices, meditation, journal prompts and more. We provide a variety of avenues for our students and our educators to engage in their own ideas of individual and collective wellness.
Our beloved partners that assist in building out these wellness practices and models in the community are Solidarity Studios (Chicago, IL), Shades of Honey (Denver, CO), Alrowwad Vocational Centre (Palestine).

NARRATIVE
Narratives Matter. LSP leads this project in the spirit of ethographic research and inquiry. We focus on the importance of documentation, sharing and reflection.
Who we are
The Lyripeutic Storytelling Project is a design-based research (DBR) study investigating how learning environments, rooted in hip-hop based education and critical literacies, can facilitate opportunities for BIPOC youth to learn (and share) wellness narratives that are endogenous to the cultural communities they traverse. The study explores the affordances of hip-hop artistic practice as a tool for youth to tell stories about their community cultural wealth.
